Open House
October 2010
The annual Philomath Fire & Rescue Open House celebration was held Saturday, October 9, 2010 under cloudy and sometimes rainy skies. It didn't deter the approximately 150 people who wandered in throughout the day. The event marked the end of National Fire Prevention Week activities.
Participants enjoyed free prevention gifts including smoke alarms, balloons for the kids, a photo on the first engine the department owned (Old #1), information from Benton County Search and Rescue, and safety tips from Northwest Natural Gas. The kids especially enjoyed the Junior Firefighter Challenge where they got to dress like and perform tasks as firefighters.
The event also gave Philomath Fire & Rescue an opppportunity to show off its newest acquisition, a ladder truck recently purchased from Corvallis Fire Department. If a person could fit in the safety belt, they could ride in the bucket and get a chance to see what the firefighters see from the top of the ladder.
If you missed the event and would like information on Fire Prevention, please call Fire Marshal Ray Hubbell at 541.929-3002 or stop by the main station at 1035 Main Street.
